Your goals. Your care.

A personal approach to recovery.

Understanding your care

A Thoughtful Approach to Acupuncture

Acupuncture may be included in a care plan for people seeking support with musculoskeletal discomfort, headaches, stress-related tension and other concerns. Your visit begins with a discussion of your symptoms, relevant health history and treatment goals.

Very fine needles are gently inserted at selected points. Sensations vary and may include mild pressure, warmth, tingling or a brief pinch. Your provider can adjust the approach based on your comfort and response.

Acupuncture is not a substitute for urgent medical assessment or ongoing care from your physician. Please seek prompt medical attention for severe, sudden or worsening symptoms.

  • Care plans are individualized and may be used alongside other conservative therapies.
  • Tell your provider about medications, pregnancy, bleeding concerns, implanted devices and changes in your health.
  • Your provider can help you understand whether acupuncture may be appropriate for your situation.
Individualized assessment based on your symptoms, health history and goals

WHEN TO CONSIDER CARE

Why Consider Acupuncture?
People may explore acupuncture as part of a broader plan to manage symptoms, support movement and address everyday physical tension. Recommendations should be based on an individual assessment.

Musculoskeletal discomfort

Acupuncture may be considered for concerns such as back, neck or shoulder discomfort, alongside appropriate assessment and exercise-based or manual therapies when indicated.

Headache and jaw tension

Some people seek acupuncture for recurring headaches, muscle tension or jaw-related discomfort. New, severe or unusual headaches require medical assessment.

Stress-related muscle tension

Treatment may be used as part of a plan for muscle tightness and physical tension associated with stress.

Support for mobility goals

When discomfort limits daily movement, acupuncture may be incorporated into a conservative plan focused on function and activity.

An individualized care option

Point selection and treatment approach can be adjusted according to your health history, symptoms and preferences.

A collaborative treatment plan

Acupuncture can be discussed alongside other appropriate care options, with referrals or medical follow-up recommended when needed.

Ask our team
What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a therapy that involves inserting very fine, sterile, single-use needles at selected points on the body. It is commonly used within traditional East Asian medicine and may also be included in some contemporary conservative care plans.

Does acupuncture hurt?

People experience acupuncture differently. You may notice a brief pinch, pressure, tingling, warmth or a dull sensation around a needle. Tell your provider if you are uncomfortable so the treatment can be adjusted.

What conditions can acupuncture be used for?

People often seek acupuncture for musculoskeletal discomfort, headaches, muscle tension and mobility-related concerns. Whether it is appropriate depends on your symptoms, health history and assessment findings.

Acupuncture should not delay medical care for serious, sudden or worsening symptoms.

Is acupuncture safe?

Like any treatment, acupuncture has potential risks and may not be suitable for everyone. Minor bruising, bleeding, soreness or light-headedness can occur.

Share your complete health history, including pregnancy, medications, bleeding concerns, medical conditions and implanted devices, before treatment.

What should I wear to an acupuncture appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being assessed or treated. Your provider will explain what areas need to be accessed and will prioritize appropriate draping and privacy.

Can I receive acupuncture if I am pregnant?

Pregnancy should be discussed before treatment. Your provider will consider your stage of pregnancy, symptoms and health history and may recommend that you consult your primary pregnancy-care provider when appropriate.

Should I continue my medications or medical treatment?

Do not stop or change prescribed medication or medical treatment without guidance from the clinician who manages it. Acupuncture may be considered as an addition to, rather than a replacement for, appropriate medical care.

When should I seek medical attention instead of acupuncture?

Seek urgent medical assessment for symptoms such as chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or numbness, fainting, severe injury, a severe or sudden headache, high fever, or rapidly worsening symptoms.

If you are unsure, contact an appropriate medical professional or urgent-care service.
