Ask our team ↗A shoulder brace may be appropriate when external support, movement guidance, or comfort management has been recommended for your shoulder. The most suitable option depends on your symptoms, diagnosis if known, activity demands, and stage of recovery.
A professional assessment is important to determine whether bracing is appropriate and what type of support is needed.
Wear time should follow the advice of your healthcare provider and the instructions for the specific brace. Some people may use a brace during selected activities, while others may be advised to wear it for a more defined period.
Avoid relying on a brace longer than recommended, as your rehabilitation plan may also include guided movement or strengthening.
Whether a brace should be worn overnight depends on your individual situation and the style of brace. Do not assume that overnight use is appropriate unless it has been recommended by your healthcare provider.
If sleeping in the brace causes increased discomfort, numbness, tingling, skin irritation, or circulation concerns, remove it and seek advice promptly.
A shoulder brace should feel supportive without being excessively tight, restrictive, or painful. It should stay in position during normal movement without causing pressure points or rubbing.
This depends on the reason for bracing and the exercise being performed. A brace may be recommended for certain activities, but it is not a substitute for an individualized rehabilitation plan.
Only perform exercises that have been approved for your stage of recovery. Stop and seek professional guidance if exercise increases pain, instability, or other concerning symptoms.
First, check that the brace is positioned and adjusted as instructed. Minor adjustments may improve comfort, but the brace should not cause persistent pain, numbness, tingling, skin irritation, or changes in circulation.
If discomfort continues, stop using the brace and contact ProMED or your healthcare provider for advice. A different fit, style, or support approach may be needed.
