YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Find answers to common questions about fit, use and choosing an appropriate option.
Ask our team ↗A wrist brace may be helpful when you need temporary support or when certain wrist movements are uncomfortable. The most appropriate option depends on your symptoms, daily activities and any guidance you have received from a healthcare professional.
ProMED can help you select an option that fits your needs and recovery plan.
Some people use a wrist brace during work or keyboard tasks for added support. However, wearing a brace continuously or using a brace that restricts movement too much may not be appropriate for every situation.
Wear time varies depending on why the brace is being used and the advice you have received. Some people may use a brace only for selected activities, while others may be advised to wear it at particular times of day.
Follow the guidance provided by your clinician or the product instructions where applicable.
A wrist brace should feel supportive without being overly tight. It should not create pressure pain, numbness, tingling, colour changes in the fingers or worsening symptoms.
A wrist brace may be recommended to provide temporary support after some injuries or during recovery. Whether it is appropriate, and how long it should be used, depends on the nature and severity of the injury.
It is important to seek professional assessment for significant pain, swelling, weakness, deformity, numbness or difficulty using the hand or wrist.
Not every situation requires an assessment before purchasing a brace, but professional guidance can be valuable when symptoms are persistent, severe, worsening or related to an injury. An assessment can also help identify the type of support and fit that may be most suitable.
A wrist brace is not a replacement for appropriate medical assessment when concerning symptoms are present.
